Slam title at the Australian Open in Melbourne on 31st
January depriving the Briton's hopes of a first major
crown. Leander Paes collected his fifth Grand Slam mixed
championship and second with Cara Black to win the Australian
Open Mixed title following a 7-5 6-3 win over Czech
Jeroslav Levinsky and Russian Ekaterina Makarova on
31st January in Melbourne.
Brian Magee of Britain won the vacant European Super-middleweight
title with a seventh round stoppage of Mads Larsen of
Denmark in Aarhus on 31st January. Egypt's record-breaking
Football team claimed a record seventh African title
on 31st January after beating Ghana 1-0 in the final
in Luanda. Jason Booth defended his British Super-Bantamweight
crown and collected the vacant Commonwealth title after
a win over Matthew Marsh in Nottingham on 5th February.
