Didier Drogba of Chelsea and Ivory Coast has been crowned the 2009 BBC African footballer of the year. Drogba is currently the joint top scorer in the English Premier League on 14 goals with Chelsea currently top of the table. Drgba is currently preparing to lead Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, where the Elephants are favourites.
Kim Clijsters survived two match points to beat Justin Henin in a thrilling Brisbne International final onSaturday. Clijsters battled back, saving two match points, and edged a dramatic tie break to win 6-3 4-6 7-6 (8-6) in two hours and 23 minutes. Ethiopian legend Kenenisa Bekele finished fourth as Joseph Ebuya claimed a surprise win at a snowy Bupa Edinburgh Cross country.
Russia's Nikolay Davydenko saved two match points as he fought back to beat Rafael Nadal 0-6 7-6 (10-8) 6-4 in a dramatic Qatar Open Final in Doha on Saturday.
